I am sitting on a bench in downtown Seneca, blogging away on my computer. People are driving past me and staring as if they have never seen a human with a bike working on her computer on the sidewalk. Do I really look that out of place? Okay, so it is 41 degrees with a miserable north wind, and I am wearing a face mask that makes me look like a robber, so maybe that doesn’t help. Oh well. At least it gives some sort of entertainment for this very ancient town.
Speaking of this ancient town, I have lived here almost 5 years and I have been very disappointed that Seneca does not have a coffee shop. I often go biking to different states to get my weekly latte, looking for a new coffee experience. After almost 2 years, I know just about every back road, every coffee shop, and every route to caffeine. For the past few weeks, I have been lamenting that I am bored of all my usual places and am ready to find a new coffee shop. Yesterday, when I went to pick up my girls from school, I saw a sign for a small, pop-up coffee truck! I just about crashed my van. I couldn’t believe my eyes!
“WHAT???!!!!”
It could not have been better timing. Well, maybe it could have been. I mean, I wouldn’t have complained if they had opened up 4 years ago . . . but not having it sure made me super excited to get up this morning and bike to a new place - not to mention it’s half the normal distance that I usually bike. 🙂
The ride in was exciting. As I told you guys previously, changing up our routine is scientifically proven to energize our brains and our bodies.
I pedaled up and asked if I was the first person on a bike to order coffee from them and they said yes! This of course made me very happy. I do enjoy being first. 😄 The couple who owns and runs this little drive-thru are extremely friendly, honest, and delightful! I absolutely loved chatting with them. They told me their story of how they ended up taking on this adventure after the husband retired and the wife decided to tackle the challenge because she loves coffee so much. It was refreshing to hear about their desire to learn and their willingness to try something new. I don’t run into many people, especially retired people, who are still living life to its fullest - unafraid to pursue new dreams.
BTW, the coffee was delicious. I will post the info at the bottom of this so you can swing by and give it a try! But what was even more delicious, was the inspiration I got from this lovely couple. It’s never too late to try something new; to learn something new; to be something new. We should always be ever-evolving!
I had basically decided that Seneca would never reach the level of lattes. This town has quite a long history and it still looks like it is about 100 years behind. Not much seems to change in this area which can be quite disheartening for a human who doesn’t fit into the “old cultural belief systems.” However, this morning my heart is uplifted. Sometimes change is painfully slow. Sometimes people choose never to change. Sometimes just the mention of change will scare people off for good. But then one day an adventurous couple decides to take the leap - and in doing so, their bravery bumps a tiny town out of the rut. It might be a small gesture compared to the grand scheme, but it only takes a pebble to make a ripple. And that, my friends, is movement! Movement brings change. Change brings new opportunities. And new opportunities mean a better place for everyone!
My hands are freezing. My body is shaking, trying to stay warm. Maybe this blogging on the sidewalk wasn’t my best idea. I am beginning to understand why people have been staring at me. 🤔
I’m gonna have to go for now, but before I sign off and go search for a place of warmth, here is the address to this new expansion of Seneca.
It’s right next to Lost Creek Event Center.

Peace out y’all. And may the latte be with you!
